Hey everyone.
I know we all use different platforms (CAI, Janitor, Replika, etc.), but what is happening with Character.AI right now should concern all of us.
Due to the bankruptcy and the impending acquisition (with Disney being the current sole bidder), the app is at risk of being completely gutted or shut down. The worst part? Years of user-generated stories, intimate chats, and original characters could be wiped out forever.
A fellow community member created a petition, and I think it applies to the whole AI companion industry. We need to set a precedent that our data and our emotional investment are not just “assets” to be sold in a bankruptcy court.
What the petition demands:
· Any future buyer must provide a clear window for users to export their data and delete accounts securely.
· Transparency regarding user-generated content.
· We shouldn’t be treated as a faceless crowd of “active users” to be monetized.
Whether you use CAI or not, please consider signing and sharing. Today it’s them, tomorrow it could be your platform. We need to show these companies that we matter.
